A Nice Visit from a Friend Yesterday in My Backyard: A Tessellating Turtle Shell Too!

I love when my friends come to visit! Especially this one! I have seen him come in my backyard many times. Usually when I am sitting on the lanai saying my rosary. Yesterday, I was in the backyard and he was there. He even let me get really close, stopped and stayed for a while. I always talk to him. I told him how pretty his shell design was as it had a tessellating hexagon shaped design on his back.  I use photos to teach me. I like to import them into GeoGebra software and then do the math on the photos using all the tools in GeoGebra. The turtle stopped and was still for a while so I took a few pictures or his back shell and on in front. He did not seem afraid. It is always a pleasure to see all the wildlife all around me here in Florida. I love seeing the ibis, the limpkins, the moorhens, even the other day when I was driving toward the beach I saw a small black bobcat cross the road on Orchid Island and run into the woods near the beach I go to. I  guess they are common in St. Lucie and Indian River.  Florida has some of the best wildlife all around us. I teach my students about magic squares and there is a legend of the Lo Shu Magic square that supposedly had the number of dots on its show in the 3 by 3 grid forming that famous magic square totally 15 any horizontal, vertical, and diagonal. I didn't see this on my visitor friend, just the tessellation design, but I have to teach that as well to my students. I love using photography to teach math, it helps to make sense of it using real-life images.
