Vero Lake: Living in the Country here in Florida

Did you know that if you live in unincorporated Indian River County you pay two solid waste fees for a total of $372 added onto your property taxes each year, but if you live in one of the municipalities like the City of Vero Beach, City of Sebastian, or City of Fellsmere, you only have one show up on your TRIM to pay a Solid Waste fee of $188 on your Ad Valorem tax? How is this fair to the unincorporated resident homeowners? Why the discrepancy? Why do we have to pay two solid waste fees?  Yet, the municipalities only have one show up on their taxes?  On top of it, where we live in Vero Lake Estates(midway between Fellsmere and Sebastian) the majority of the roads are all dirt roads and you never see any sheriff or policing here, cars driving 60 mph down 87th Street when it is posted as 35mph. Also, we have to pay $50 for street lights on our taxes too each year. I do not see this in any of the municipalities. If you own a newer house within the past five years or so you pay ...

I wanted to take the time to write to say I agree with J.M. from PSL who wrote about where is the fairness… in the recent newspaper here on 8/6/26. I agree with his editorial. He was saying how in PSL in his neighborhood the county leadership is overlooking and allowing so many businesses in his residential neighborhood and they are causing so many problems for their quality of life. Our elected officials are failing our good citizens by allowing big businesses to operate in residential areas for sure. We live in Vero Lake Estates in Indian River County, in the northern part of the county. It is a quadrant of thousands of homes, a residential area with speed limits of 35mph  on paved roads and 30mph  on dirt roads. Most of the roads here are dirt roads. We have a big problem with businesses like a construction company operating out of their home. Counting my weekly blessings this lovely Friday here in VLE! It was a green flag day today at the beach! I just love our beaches in this county, I love Wabasso Beach!  What a blessing! So nice all week long! I got to take some nice walks in the woods, by the pond and lake. I saw a very cute brown bunny, he let me take his photo. It has been a week of blessing! And I am counting mine for sure! God is so good to me! I received a nice letter from the President of the United States this week, it was so nice to see. I pray for them and thanked him for all the wonderful 250th birthday celebrations for our country on Independence Day on the 4th of July. Thankfully all my spouses family is fine who were greatly affected by the bad earthquake in Cali, Colombia, 7.4. It was so bad for them. We are praying for all the Colombians impacted by this.
